What this episode is all about:
Today on The Goddess Diaries Radio, it is the Eve of Solstice, the Longest Night of the year -- also known as Mother's Night, when the Goddess appears in her Mother aspect to give birth to the light of the world, the sun : s-u-n.
During this darkest time of year, it is customary to decorate with lights and candles and fires...some say these ancient customs are passed on from when our ancestors lived in fear of abandonment by the sunlight and, through sympathetic magic, lit candles and fires to encourage the sun’s return. Collectively, we still seem to be afraid of the darkness and we have the urge to fill it with light.
With all this focus on celebrating the return of the Sun (or of the SON--that is, on the CHILD), have we misunderstood the beauty of the void that is the Mother of all Creation, the Goddess behind creation, She Who is the Darkness out of which insight and wisdom is borne?
