Recently I began working with yoni eggs. What is a yoni egg? Ummm...nothing short of a sacred tool of self care!
Yoni is the Sanskrit word for "sacred space" and is often used in Eastern cultures as a euphemism for the vagina.
Because the vagina is a muscle, it has to move and will atrophy if it is not properly exercised. The best way to do this is through sexual activity.
Aaaaand the next best way is kegels -- exercises intended to strengthen the pelvic floor and vaginal muscles. The only problem with kegels, however, is that for the last few decades, women have been ill-advised in the proper technique!
Most ob-gyn's advise to simply squeeze and release the perineum muscles, but this is the equivalent to staring at your weights on the stand as you flex your muscles!
This is where the yoni egg comes in. Traditionally made of jade, they have been used in Eastern cultures for centuries to tone and strengthen the vagina and enhance sexual performance. Basically, these are natural stones carved and polished into the shape of an egg. They come in various sizes and can be made from almost any kind of stone.
There are numerous benefits to using a yoni egg including the prevention of incontinence, uterine prolapse and vaginal dryness. Using a yoni egg during perimenopause or menopause increases blood flow to the vagina, helping to stave off vaginal atrophy.
And, depending on the the metaphysical qualities of the stone you use, you can achieve deep energetic healing, as well.
As far as I have experienced, this practice is imperative to maintain libido, sexual stamina and overall life force energy (qi). A strong vagina enhances everything about your overall quality of life -- including creativity, decision making, and, yes, stronger, deeper orgasms.
My journey with yoni eggs began in December 2014, when I received a message in a dream to start working with a carnelian egg. Over the years, I've had enough of these "random" dream messages to know that I should follow their bread crumb trails when they happen. So I set googled it upon waking, but my search was unfruitful, however. Later that day, however, I ended up manifesting a rose quartz and a blue calcite egg through a crystal retailer friend.
That night, I started working with the rose quartz egg. Purified, smudged and sterilized, I was ready to go. I warmed in gently in my hands before inserting it. I then settled into my first meditation with the egg.
Well, that night, it cracked.
Now, as an energy worker, I know it is not uncommon for crystals to crack when they are done working with you, so I took that as a sign that rose quartz was not the stone I needed to work with. I took it outside and buried it in my backyard.
I do have to admit that my ego swelled a little....as a peri-menopausal woman, I do worry about the effects of aging on my lady parts, and this little episode gave me a giggle! Thoughts of my strong vagina swelled my head!
But I know the truth is that the crystal cracked because it was not a match to the energies of my vagina, vibrationally speaking (and yes, my inner 12-year-old-boy is stiffling a giggle as I write this!)
The next day, I began working with a blue calcite egg. After meditating with it, I couldn't get a good read on its energies, but I know it's a gentle stone for calming the nerves and anxiety. During this time, I was feeling a bit of tension, as my partner was away overseas and I was tending to our children, our businesses, all the household chores and my office job without any support. That night, I chose to sleep with it in. The next morning, I woke up with it under my pillow!
Hmmm....??? I took this as a sign that my intuitive message to work with the carnelian egg was increasingly important. These stones were not a match for my needs at this time!
So, back to the hunt! I found the carnelian egg and have to say that I understand now why my body needed to work with it. Carnelian is associated with the sacral chakra, the womb and the moon. It's vibration is gentle and sets the tone for creativity, restores vitality and removes clutter.
In the meantime, I continue to work with my eggs to strengthen and tone the yoni. I will post more about the exercises and techniques I've discovered, but for now, I am happy to share this post and invite you to take a look at the information and eggs I have available over on Etsy.
Wow! Yoni care is a topic I never thought I'd be talking about, but judging by your reaction to this post, I am now convinced that this is a very important issue for women of all ages!
When I first published this post, I was a bit nervous, feeling so vulnerable sharing an experience that seemed like a private matter. Yet, since this post went live, I have continue to receive tons of feedback from you telling me that you also want to do sacred yoni work! Wow, wow, wow...never would I have guessed that this silly little post on my personal experience with yoni eggs would serve so many in need and connect us in such a sacred way.
I am nearly shocked -- but mostly inspired --by the amount of views this post gets and the amount of email I receive regarding this topic. To keep up, and because so many of you have responded to this blog post with questions and requests for help with choosing and working with yoni eggs, I am thrilled to announce that starting 7/25/2015 I am offering one-on-one Yoni Egg Consultations via skype, phone or in person.
