Everyone needs beauty as well as bread. ~ John Muir
I'm trying something new this month. Well, not really "new" new, because Goddesses are featured all over this blog, but new in the sense that I want to explore themes related to the Goddess in a new way around here.
April gets its name from Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love and at this month's Libra Full Moon, my local women's circle will be contemplating Venus, the Roman counterpart to Aphrodite, who rules over the zodiac sign Libra. So to come full circle, here on The Goddess Diaries, I am excited to explore themes of Venus.
As mentioned, Venus rules the zodiac signs of both Libra (partnerships and beauty) and Taurus (sensuality and money). She teaches abundance in all ways.
In my experience, I've come to understand that Venus is associated with the sacral chakra, the solar plexus chakra, and also the heart chakra. This deep core strength means she is stable and centered, able to provide for her needs from an internal spring of creativity. She is complete unto herself, and therefore does not seek love from external things...rather, she enjoys sharing her bounty with those she loves,. Her healthy esteem means that she attracts the same into her experience.
As a Goddess of fertility, women prayed to Venus with hopes of conceiving and children. Today, women invoke her to grant favor in beauty and charm.
Venus is the the goddess of love in all its expressions, from a baby's laughter to passion's first blush, from hot and steamy sexuality to a bittersweet farewell at life's end.
She is the goddess of beauty -- she inspires women to fully embody their femininity and appreciate it for its magical potency. She leaves everything she touches just a little more beautiful.
She is the goddess of desire, of self improvement, of sensuality, love, sex, passion, and, as my friend Lenora reminds us, the Goddess of joy and laughter.
Venus has inspired artists through millennia to paint, sculpt and compose. Even the modern arts are in her domain including photography, digital collage, sound sculpture, dance, poetry slams, and even floral arranging.
