In astrology, the moon symbolizes one's internal world, how they are feeling on a soul level. For instance, taking a peek at your natal chart (or your progressed moon chart), you can see the path of your emotional development from earliest childhood experiences to the present moment.
And by tracking the transiting moon against your natal chart, you can get a pretty good idea of what your personal energy cycles are in any given month.
Of course, this is all well and good on a self-awareness level, but how can you apply these cycles to your everyday life?
Over the years, I've found that observing the moon's phases has helped me understand my own personal energy cycles -- and this information is RICH when it comes to staying in flow with personal and business goals.
For instance, when I worked in the corporate world, I fell out of sync with my Personal Energy Cycles as a resource because I was so focused on following the corporation's structure -- the 9 - 5 schedule, the weekly meetings, the project deadlines that were driven by demands of the department... I simply showed up -- whether my personal energy was game or not -- and did what they expected in order to collect a paycheck.
When I fell ill with adrenal fatigue in late 2014, I realized it was, in part, because I had been pushing too hard against my own rhythms and a rebalancing was in order! I used the Moon Phases to help realign myself (which is probably a good topic for an upcoming blog post!)
And this is the beauty of running a heart-centered-business. It means you get to design your schedule based on your personal needs, and if you are aware of your own cycles, you can plan your workload in a way that serves both your client and yourself!
So, after observing and tuning into my personal energy cycles, I feel I've gotten into a pretty good flow, knowing when I will be able to power up and push through and also knowing when I need to take some rejuvenation and self-care time.
For instance, as I write this, we are in a waning moon phase. This is from full moon to dark moon and it is a time to "clean house," so to speak. The waning phase is ideal for the following activities:
The three day period of time when the moon is not visible in the sky is, symbolically speaking, a time when the energies are still. And the Dark/New Moon Phase is “all mine.” I mean, I use this time to focus on my holistic health needs, my inner state of being, etc...and hardly ever schedule business activities during this time period. As solo-preneurs, your physical health is everything, and while I also recommend a daily routine of healthy habits, this period of the dark/new moon is a great time to:
The Waxing Moon Phase is a period of inspired action. This is when the moon is first visible in the sky -- that slim crescent-- to the Full Moon phase. As the moon grows it projects an expansive "can do" energy, and aligning your mental state with this energy can support your needs. It is a great time to:
Of course, these are but a few examples of how aligning your personal energy cycles with the moon phases can help you in business and life. There are many more ways this could work for you, and if you have an experience or idea you’d like to share, we’d love to hear about it in the comments section below!
