Venus stations to go retrograde on Saturday, taking a trip back through Aries and into Pisces. Now, if you are reading this, you probably are well aware that retrogrades are not actually all gloom and doom (despite what some traditional astrologers will tell you!) I take a different approach and (through personal experience) have come to believe in the restorative power planetary retrogrades. They can be painful if you are unaware of the energies at play. But if you relax, retrogrades are like a permission slip from the cosmos to re-evaluate the relating aspects of your life.
Venus is the planet of love, beauty and value. She sees over our loving partnerships, culture and money, but also, our sense of self worth. Where Venus is located in your chart will tell you a lot about your sense of style, how you love and what you value.
The ruler of both Taurus and Libra, Venus energy takes on different attributes for each. In Taurus, Venus rules the more practical, mundane material matters, like personal resources; your home and how you decorate it; how you spend or save money; the physical senses and personal taste. In Libra, she is more concerned with relationships and harmony. The astrological glyph for Venus is a mirror, and in Libra, relationships are the mirror Venus uses in order to see herself. Here, Venus teaches self-love as the most important relationship you will have in this life.
This Venus retrograde begins in Aries so will be rife with themes of Self, Identity, Ego and Fitness. Retrogrades are periods of reflection, a time to slow down from the usual grind and re-evaluate our priorities.
Venus retrograde in Aries is calling us to reflect on our sense of SELF and how we relate to others in the world. (Interestingly, Jupiter is currently in retrograde on the opposite side of the wheel from Venus, in Libra. The two are whispering to each other right now, and later this year will face off together. If you have strong cardinal energy in your chart, you are likely to feel the effects of both these retrogrades more deeply.)
To find out how this Venus Retrograde may impact you, look to your natal chart and pinpoint the house where it is taking place. The house tells you what areas of your life will be most impacted.
I’m not saying it will be easy-peasy -- those retrogrades can throw some serious lessons if we are operating from a space of insecurity, so do take it easy, yes, but don’t hide your head in the sand, either. Here are some ways to consciously work with the energies of a Venus retrograde.
Venus Retrograde in the 1st House/Aries: recommit to a physical fitness routine. Anything that gets you moving, makes you feel powerful, strong and ready for life’s biggest challenges. Yoga, dance, martial arts.
Venus Retrograde in the 2nd House/ Taurus-- re-design your environment. The second house is the domain of daily income, our value & values, the physical home -- and it is also where we first encounter beauty.
Venus Retrograde in the 3rd House/ Gemini-- is all about data, information, primary learning, siblings, your neighborhood and local travel. Re-discover your love of the Library -- or create a little library in your neighborhood! Cull your bookshelf and remove the ones you don’t love.
Venus Retrograde in 4th House/ Cancer -- Revamp your self-care routines. How are you nurturing yourself? It has a direct impact on your ability to nurture others.
Venus Retrograde in the 5th House/ Leo-- If you are currently in a relationship, time for you to restore vitality with some romantic play. If you are single, now is a time to focus on having fun for the sake of having fun!
Venus Retrograde in the 6th House/Virgo -- reorganize your daily habits--This is the house of everyday habits and daily tasks, the systems and routines of work. It is what you do every day. And if you don’t love it, then why do it?
Venus Retrograde in the 7th House/ Libra --Libra loves to talk...so many thoughts and ideas to share and bounces them off of others in order to learn about itself. But during the Venus retrograde, you might consider taking a vow of silence. It's only six weeks.
Venus Retrograde in the 8th house/ Scorpio -- this is the house of investments, of intimacy, of secrets and transformation. Discover the transformative power of reinvesting your time, your money or your energy into what you love.
Venus Retrograde in the 9th House/ Sagittarius -- regenerate a love of philosophy and travel, rededicate yourself to spirituality. Remember why you are here. No matter where you go, there you are.
Venus Retrograde in the 10th House/ Capricorn --Your social status, achievements and just reward. Your legacy. If this is happening in your 10th house, it’s a great time to review your financial status
Venus Retrograde in the 11th House/ Aquarius -- Remove anyone from your life that does not appreciate you for who you are. Review the charities you are giving your time/ money and talent to.
Venus Retrograde in the 12th House/ Pisces -- Retreat into the subconscious with some meditative activities like adult coloring pages.
