No one knows for sure when our fascination with the moon really began, but I like to think of our ancient ancestors coming out of their caves to meet under the glow of the full moon to celebrate, eat, drink, be merry and keep watch over the tribe throughout the night...
Since time immemorial, humans have been mesmerized by Luna's luminosity, and scientists have discovered that the moon influenced our earliest calendars which are over 30,000 years old. I suppose it stands to reason that the moon would continue to inspire mankind's spiritual and practical needs ever since.
In Goddess culture, the moon is symbolic of the feminine aspects of nature. The shining orb that circles the earth produces no light of its own but, in true feminine fashion, reflects the light of the (masculine) sun. Her waxing and waning phases mimic a woman's reproductive cycles and hold the mysteries of the stages of a woman's life, from maiden to mother to queen to crone.
Astrologers say the moon represents our psyche. It has a direct influence on our intuition, secret truths, and those things that we may not be able to logically articulate, but the things we know without knowing how or why. In other words, the moon is the key to our soul's deepest desires.
As the full moon illuminates our inner landscape, each month, she is charged with the distinct energy based on that of the astrological sign she is visiting. This frequency activates those areas of our lives which correspond to that specific sign, so each month our experience under the full moon's magic is unique. No two full moons are ever alike.
Psychologically speaking, the full moon beckons us once a month with the offer to slow down and reflect on our current life events. It is as good excuse as any (as far as I'm concerned) to do some deep soul work. As above so below.
So, with this first full moon of 2016, I am excited to roll out my new blog series, "LuminEssence." Each month, I will share 100 diary prompts for tapping into your Inner Goddess. Use these diary prompts with the light of the full moon to illuminate what keeps you acting small so it can be dismantled and transformed. Let the light shine into any areas of your life that may have become a little neglected, forgotten, stagnate. This way, you can live more fully--pun intended! It is my sincere hope that these diary prompts will assist you as you tap into the real-time energy of the full moon and help you remember your sacred self.
Leo Full Moon:
Leo is ruled by the sun, and as such is the most jovial sign of the zodiac. Exalted, Moon in Leo energy has us thinking about our unique value in the world, authenticity and creativity. Under this full moon, it is likely you will feel like playing hostess where you can take center stage and show everyone a good time (especially if Leo is strong in your natal chart!)
On the flip side, Leo moon energy can manifest itself in more negative ways such as narcissism and self indulgence. The trick is to check in with the heart and notice where you might be dimming your inner light. It's never too late to reignite that inner spark by indulging your creative side!
Leo moon's energy is generally a fun-loving, creative and ideally self-reflective energy, so I hope you can make some time to dive deep with these moon prompts.
Pour yourself a cuppa', light a candle, and dive in to as many prompts as you like to record in your diary.
