Yesterday (the day of the blog launch party) I woke up feeling like I was coming down with the flu. I had the proverbial aches and pains, headache, stuffy nose, etc... But I reminded myself that it was the big day and I didn't have time to get sick.
So, I got out of bed intending to take a long hot shower only to discover I had forgotten to turn on the dryer the night before, which meant my bath towels were not dry. Then, my daughter missed her bus, so I had to drive her to school, making me late for my day job.
Then, something so randomly shocking happened that nearly completely derailed my whole day, something that I am still trying to process and will talk about in an upcoming blog post but for now, just know that it almost completely interrupted my flow. By the time I was finally ready to head out to the office, I struggled with the choice to go to work or go back to bed and hide out all day...
But caving to the excuses only gets you sidetracked and will never get you closer to your big dream. You just have to find the motivation to push through.
So what did I do? I unleashed my INNER GODDESS with these little tricks I’ve discovered over the years to help me to keep my head in the game. I share them here with the hope that, when you feel like your inner goddess has run away, maybe they can help you, too!
1) A Goddess looks at problems differently--as opportunities for personal growth, instead of excuses that keep her small. Instead of caving to the discomfort, approach obstacles as a new adventure. Look at them with curiosity and wonder and ask yourself how you intend to find the lesson in it. This one small switch in perspective is powerful!
2) A Goddess knows where to focus her attention -- and her efforts. When things are out of your control, don’t fret about not getting what you want. Instead, look at what you CAN control in the situation and focus on that, taking actions that move you toward your goal.
3) A Goddess always dresses for the occasion. Wear something that makes you feel like an empowered goddess--a cashmere sweater, bold red lipstick, silver earrings or a special necklace. One of my dearest friends, Kim, invokes her Inner Goddess by donning her Wonder Woman underwear! Seriously, she’s been doing it for years! In her high stress job as a Residential Services Manager who worked with addicts and mentally unstable populations, she knew when it was going to be a rough day, so she’d plan to wear her wonder woman panties! No one else knew this, of course. It was Kim's little empowered secret--not only did it give her a sense of empowerment, but it made her giggle when she'd think of it, too. And keeping a sense of humor about stressful situations is a bonus Goddess trick for handling those obstacles.
