The Goddess Gallery is a fun new feature here on the blog that will explore the goddess lifestyle through weekly photo posts.
I live a pretty balanced life, but there is always room for course correction. This week I will turn 42 and feel like I'm going through a mini-mid life re-balancing of sorts, where I am flooded with memories of all the ways I loved to be before the world told me how I was supposed to be.
If we could just take a moment here and thank my mom, a highly talented and creative soul, who introduced me to my very first camera, a brownie, when I was ten. This and a journalist reel-to-reel tape recorder became my toys of choice that summer and I'd play long hours at being an international photojournalist. There were countless black and white photos of mushrooms, my feet and the dog. Later, I was given a 35mm camera that I used in high school photography classes, but then, as a young mom I no longer had time for this kind of play.
I took a photography class in college (back in '92) on the cusp of the digital transition, and had an opportunity to learn how to process photos in a dark room and on computer. This brought me immense joy. But again, and this time faced with poverty, I had to put away my "toys," quit college and get a job so I could feed my family.
Photography just did not seem like it was going to stick for me. I had long forgotten these passions until my fiance started selling vintage cameras on Etsy.
It is not about snapping the most artistic shots, having the perfect composition or lighting or subject matter, for that matter....but about leading with feeling. I am creative. I want to feel creative.
And this is where I reclaim it.
1) Meditation with amethyst and three pages a day first thing in the morning sets the tone for a productive day. 2) A late Imbolc celebration with my circle. 3) I like to warm up my vocal chords by drinking peppermint tea before recording the podcast. 4) Excited for the Indigo Moon/New Moon/Chinese New Year on Feb 18. There will be magic -- and tea! 5) Woke up singing the song, "Blackbird." Found this feather in my path when I left the house. 6) Morning tea and astrophyllite. This stone is great for moon work at the quarter moons.
