Did you know your business has an astrology chart? In fact, a natal chart can be erected for ANYTHING-- an event, a person, a movie, a book or even a creative project where the start time, date and location is known. (And heck, the chart can be erected even if we don't have an accurate time, but it is helpful!) The astrology of your business is a highly intuitive way to access the SOUL of your business and it is a useful resource for business planning and growth!
Next week, The Goddess Diaries will experience its THIRD ANNIVERSARY! It's hard to believe that its been three whole years in business! As I was reflecting on the journey so far, it was truly insightful to go over the business natal chart. If you are a business owner, using astrology can be a helpful tool to find insight into the SOUL of your business.
I'll talk more in depth with a business chart reading in the next episode of The Goddess Diaries Radio, but in the meantime, I wanted to share how you can look to the planetary archetypes for insight into your own business chart.
The planets describe the roles within of a business’s psyche -- think of each as a different department within the company. Where they show up by sign tells you how the function will be carried out and where they show up by house tells you which area of business they will likely be carried out. Of course, the aspects any planet makes to another planet or point tells us the support or challenges each archetype receives as it performs its function.
Sun: Company’s Character and Public Relations
Just as in a personal chart the Sun is the outward expression of one’s personality, so it is in a business chart. The Sun represents the company’s character and its function is to put its best face forward! In a business chart, the Sun is concerned with its overall expression and how it presents itself to the world. It is concerned with maintaining a positive connection between itself and its customers.
Moon: Customers + Clients
The moon represents a company’s clients and customers because in astrology, it represents the general public. As the sun illuminates the moon, customers will respond to a company’s public relations strategy. The more open and authentic the Sun is, the more likely customers will resonate with the company.
A business natal chart moon phase is a good indicator of the company's ability to attract customers. If the natal moon phase is waxing crescent to full, expect a steady increase of customers over time. If it is waning full to new, you may need to focus on a solid customer retention plan.
It should also be noted that the moon phase is influential in a business chart for the success of a product launch, as well. Doing so during a waxing moon is ideal for business growth. If you are phasing out a product or making a transition, best to do so during a waning phase.
Mercury: Communications Department
Mercury was the Messenger of the Gods, and is said to have created the language of astrology! Mercury represents communication, travel, commerce and healing. Where Mercury shows up in a business chart is where we begin crafting communications strategies.
Because Mercury is the god of Merchants, Mercury in a chart will show you how to craft communications that directly impact the bottom line. This includes ad copy and sales scripts, blog posts, social media updates and writing your business story.
Mercury’s sign tells you HOW to share your business story/ communications and the house tells you WHERE it is best to express the messages.
Because Mercury rules over short distance travel, Mercury may also describe how and where transportation will be necessary for the business tasks at hand.
Finally, as a healer, Mercury by sign and house tells a business owner the best tips for how and where you can maintain optimal health (yours and the business’s!)
Venus: Business Relationship Manager
Venus handles a lot in a business chart, but its ok. She's up for the task!
In astrology, Venus rules over beauty, love, money and justice and in a business chart, the main function of Venus is to ATTRACT business. But it goes beyond this to include managing those contacts necessary to impact the company’s bottom line.
She gives us clues about how we position the company to look its best (the adornments, the design, the feel) and how to relate to beneficial partners/ sponsors/ networks.
She handles the daily management of money, legal matters and beneficial business relationships.
Venus in a business chart shows us how we can secure all of the above and even maintain harmony by enacting fair policies and procedures.
Mars: Sales Force
Mars is the Warrior Archetype of the zodiac, and in business represents those on the frontline -- The Sales Force.
Mars reflects the company’s survival instinct and knows that if the business is to succeed, it better take action toward achieving its goals. It's the warrior spirit, protecting the company’s vision to the bitter end.
A well developed Mars is a skilled sales force, but also, Mars represents the energetic life force of a company, so investing attention here is an investment in the vitality of the business itself.
Mars gives us clues in how to initiate projects, launch a product, maintain (or improve) the company’s position within it’s industry.
If sales are not hitting the mark, tackling your company’s natal Mars lessons will likely trigger an increase to the bottom line.
Jupiter: Chief Executive Officer
Jupiter represents the main God of the Greek pantheon and in astrology is the “Entrepreneur” of the Zodiac. Therefore, in a business chart, Jupiter represents the company’s CEO --or at least the big idea that was the catalyst for the business in the first place. It is ambitious, optimistic and wants you to THINK BIG! No, BIGGER!
Now, does that mean Jupiter is the one who does the work? Not necessarily.
Jupiter, often blinded by its own ambition, tends to bite off more than it can chew, so while it can be highly optimistic, it can also get itself into trouble at times.
The cool thing about Jupiter in a chart is that it really can’t be badly aspected. Look to the contacts it makes to other planets to learn about the helpers it has at the ready. These are the ones who will actually carry out the work required to make Jupiter's vision a reality.
Look to Jupiter for inspiration to grow the business. Remember, whatever Jupiter touches, it expands. Also, we have to take Jupiter for what it is -- the ideas, the optimism, the mirth and sheer joy that comes from running a business and being an entrepreneur. Relish it!
Saturn: Chief Operations Officer
Where Jupiter is the “Yes” man of the zodiac, Saturn is the “No” man. But make no mistake -- Saturn always produces results! It just does it by cutting out all the extraneous fluff and erecting strong boundaries --which often means saying no. The wisdom here is that if you can't say no, then your yes means nothing!
It’s true that where we find Saturn in a business chart is where we find the bulk of the work to be done, and that’s because Saturn is a key archetype in a business chart ruling over work, achievements and ambition.
Unlike Jupiter’s optimistic ambition and predilection to over promising and under delivering, Saturn is more realistic and is not at all opposed to taking responsibility for making the vision reality.
In fact, Jupiter and Saturn need each other. Saturn, as COO, takes the CEO’s ideas and immediately gets to work, implementing a plan for success. It is a master of time. Saturn learns from the past and relies on order reminding us that consistency of effort, over time, brings about big results.
Saturn demands respect, and its location in a business chart shows us how and where that respect is likely to be earned.
Uranus: Technology Department
While Uranus represents innovation and originality in astrology, it shows up as our Technology Director in a business chart. It tells us what kinds of technology is useful for the business -- and this goes beyond laptops and internet service. Remember, technology can be any tool that helps you in your business and the key here is that it positions you as the unique leader in your field.
The thing about Uranus, as mentioned, is that it demands innovation. Where it appears in a chart is where we have unacknowledged potential if we are willing to invoke the changes necessary.
It can be a disruptive force if we are entrenched in the old ways of doing business but if we can welcome change, it’s a powerful catalyst for success.
Uranus is also a point of intuitive insight. If you feel stuck in your business, you can look to Uranus for flashes of inspiration.
Neptune: Marketing & Advertising
As the big dreamer of the Zodiac, Neptune, God of Imagination (and Illusions!) presents in a business chart as the Marketing Director, in charge of advertising and marketing.
Neptune rules over photography, graphic design, poetry, music and art, magic and fantasy. Where we find Neptune in the chart is where we find the company’s siren song that allures customers.
It is the business’s “empathy bone” pointing to areas of connection. It can also highlight leaky boundaries, something to watch for that can be a source of self-sabotage. Neptune also shows the potential pitfalls of projection and illusion -- a warning about the dangers of idealism. While Neptune has the power to bring people together (i.e. unity consciousness), Neptune can also help business owners with completing tasks, the dissolution of projects, or the dissolving of partnerships.
Pluto: Chief Financial Officer
Pluto represents wealth and power, and in a business chart, shows up as the company’s CFO. Pluto shows us where to focus our efforts in mining the depths for the valuable gems that exist within. There is a tinge of obsession associated with Pluto, and can point to areas where we are likely to become consumed .
As the CFO, Pluto controls the balance sheet and oversees acquisitions, mergers, and all income from sources not tied to the business’s services (interest income, inheritance, gifts and donations.)
A well aspected Pluto foretells a company’s capacity for regeneration. Harsh aspects to Pluto shows where the highest potential for transformational growth rests within the company.
Ceres, Athena, Vesta, Juno: Research + Development/ Growth Strategies
The function of the four main Goddesses, the asteroids, in astrology is to hold space for the re-emergence of the Feminine Divine. In the case of a business, the asteroids underscore the company's creative potential, the way a company nurtures its needs to facilitate growth; accessing intuitive wisdom; high level planning and growth strategies. These four Goddesses, Ceres, Athena, Vesta and Juno, respectively, rule nurturing and growth, strategy, focus, and negotiation.
Nodal Axis: Strengths, Goals and Mission Statement
The North Node in a business chart is like your company's Guiding Star. It represents the path forward in all things business-related. It is where the Mission statement can be found in the chart.
If you feel business is stifled (for whatever reason) looking to the Nodal Axis can help you, as a business owner, see where you are resting on bad habits and, perhaps, neglecting your future growth.
The South Node represents a company's strengths developed through past lessons -- this could be from a previous business incarnation, the owner's past business experience or just life wisdom picked up through the act of living.
Often times, when challenged, the tendency is for a business to retreat into the comfort zone of its highly-developed South Node traits. However, this is a bad habit and retreating takes away from one's ability to carry out their purpose.
We don't want to retreat into the South Node, but we also don't want to reject these traits either. Instead, a better habit would be to use the South Node energies as a catalyst and propel the business toward achieving it's mission.
Lot of Fortune: Angel Investors
The lot of fortune in a natal chart shows one their true gifts that will help them fulfill their purpose in life as well as any supportive guides who ultimately help them access these traits. In ancient astrology, these helpers were known as "daimons" or spirit guides (i.e. guardian angels). Today, we might also refer to these helpers as our Inner Voice, Intuition or "the Invisible Hand of God."
In a business chart, the lot of fortune by sign represents how our inherent talents desire to be expressed and the house represents where they desire to be expressed.
This point also shows us helpers of all kinds including business mentors and Angel Investors.
Look to the Lot of Fortune for insight into the business's greatest talents and from who it might receive supportive (even if unseen) assistance/ guidance.
Vertex Point: Influential Contacts
The vertex point represents a meeting of influential people (actual people, unlike the Lot of Fortune helpers) who facilitate soul growth -- and the same is true for your businesses.
Though it usually is, this meeting is not always a pleasant experience. Sometimes we encounter people with whom we don’t necessarily resonate, but who actually prompt us to evolve.
So, the vertex point does not necessarily mean “kindreds." It could also mean competitors, agitators, nemesis or encounters with people who show us how the business can grow through the exchange. Remember, those who trigger us the most are our greatest teachers, and the same is true for a business entity.
